Will Grigsby vs. Ricardo Lopez
Will is in for the fight of his life. Since winning the vacant IBF Jr Fly Weight title last Dec, he has defended it once with a unanimous win to Carmelo Caceres last Mar. With limited fighting experience, and having faced mediocre opposition, Will sports an unimpressive record of 14-1-1 6 KO's, and defends his title against the legend Ricardo Lopez. Ricardo is an undefeated banger who is making the tremendous leap from boxing's lightest weight class (105) all the way to boxing's second lightest weight class (108). Ricardo is the reigning WBA, WBC and WBO 105 champ, and has held the WBC belt since Oct 1990!!! He has made 23 defenses of the belt of which only 6 have went the distance. Ricardo maintains an impressive record of 47-0-1 35 KO's, and almost half of those bouts have been title matches against world class opposition. Inactivity on Ricardo's part may play a factor, but I believe it won't and doesn't affect the lighter weights as it does the heavier. Will's only loss was to Michael Carbajal 10 years ago and has never been stopped. There's a first time for everything. Will is Minnesota's first challenger for a world title in 19 years. . . It was fun while it lasted.

Julio Cesar Chavez vs. Willy Wise
Willy would like to take this opportunity to jump start a fledgling career. A win against a boxing icon like Julio would look impressive on his resume, and perhaps lead to bigger paydays down the road. What he doesn't realize is that he is a hand picked opponent for Chavez. With a weak record of 23-6-4 7 KO's, he doesn't pose a threat to Julio. With limited abilities and even less power, he is tremendously outclassed by the Mexican with a plan.
Julio Cesar Chavez is on the warpath and campaigning for his 7th world title. It is rumored he has set his sights on WBC 140lb champ Kostya Tsyzu. Honestly, Chavez doesn't have a snowballs chance in hell against Tsyzu. Needless to say, he needs to look impressive to obtain such a matchup. Against Willy, this will prove to be easy. Since getting his face busted up by Oscar De La Hoya twice, he has looked fairly impressive in his last two bouts. Last Jul he stopped Mary Jakubowski in 4 (as predicted - a retread match in which Julio stopped him in 6 rounds Dec 92), and a 4th rd stoppage of Verdell Smith last Apr. (Verdell who . . oh 24-26 Verdell Smith)
Revered as Mexico's pride, (because he owes the government so much in back taxes) and with over 100 wins, (45 of which were Tijuana taxi drivers, bus boys and waitresses) he doesn't want to go out being remembered as the one Oscar busted up for a total of 12 rounds, both times retiring in a mask of blood.
Boy I would LOVE to see him against Tsyzu.

In Retrospect:

Will Grigsby vs. Ricardo Lopez
As expected, but without the KO. Lopez out hustled and outclassed Will. Although neither men were in serious trouble, and both fighters sustained cuts, it was an action packed 12 rounds. Will made a descent run at defending his title, and credit must be given to him for surviving the 12 round onslaught. But nobody expected Will to pull off the win here. I didn't expect him to be standing at the final bell. None the less Will still has a future in the 108 lb class. We'll be hearing from him again I'm sure.

Julio Cesar Chavez vs. Willy Wise
Not as expected. Julio didn't expect for Willy to be prepared to go the distance, and Willy beat Julio soundly. It's a shame. I wanted to see Julio beat Willy, get the matchup with Tsyzu, and see Tsyzu give Julio a SERIOUS beating. Julio makes no excuses for his dismal performance, except he trained poorly. No shit sherlock! Thanks to you Julio my prediction percentage has dropped below %80 for the first time ever. After this performance, Julio loses all marketing credibility and in my opinion should fade off into the darkness. The LOSER!
